The Young Women’s Leadership Academy, San Antonio’s first all-girls public school, opened in August 2008 as a tuition-free, college-preparatory school that focuses on math, science, and technology – fields in which women are typically underrepresented. Over the last fifteen years, YWLA has cemented its status as a rigorous, yet supportive school that empowers young women to discover the leaders within them. At YWLA, students receive a quality education shaped by the core values of college preparation, responsible leadership, and wellness life skills, values that contribute to a well-rounded education that is vital to our students’ success in college. Consistently rated Exemplary by the state since its inception, YWLA is a collaborative effort between SAISD and the Young Women's Preparatory Network.
YWLA is now utilizing a lottery -based system for all applicants. To be considered for the 2025-2026 school year, all families must apply. We are currently accepting 6th , 7th, 8th,and 9th grade applications for the upcoming school year.

Application Deadline: January 31st, 2025
Note: Applicants that apply after the January 31st deadline will not be considered in the lottery. Instead, they will be placed on the waitlist for possible offers, depending on availability.

Lottery Draw:
Based on available seating, a lottery will determine student placements. If there are still spots available after the lottery, students will receive an offer from the waitlist.
Lottery Offers: Begin the week of February 24th, 2025
Deadline to Accept an Offer: March 18th, 2025
Important Note for Current YWLA-Primary Students
Students currently attending YWLA-Primary are prioritized for admission to YWLA Secondary. However, current Primary students must still apply to ensure their priority lottery selection.
